Shielded (ZZ)

Non-contact metal shields on both sides. These are best for low-friction, high-speed applications in relatively clean environments where grease retention is required.

Sealed (DDU/VV/DDW)

VV (Non-contact)
Provides better dust resistance than ZZ without increasing torque. Unsuitable for splash water.

DDW (Light-contact)
Excellent dust resistance and normal splash water protection with lower torque than standard contact seals.

DDU (Contact)
Full-contact rubber seals for maximum resistance to dust and moisture. Excellent for preventing grease leakage.

Standards, Naming, and Identification

NSK bearings follow metric ISO dimensions, though inch (R series) variants are available.

How to identify your bearing:

  • Basic Code: 4 digits (e.g., 6203) indicating the series and bore size.
  • Sealing Suffix: ZZ (Shielded), DDU (Contact Seal), VV (Non-contact Seal), or DDW (Light-contact).
  • Clearance Suffix: CN (Standard), C3 (Greater than standard), or CM (Electric motor specific).
  • Cage Material: Standard pressed steel (unmarked), Polyamide/Plastic (T1X, T85), or Brass (M).
  • Material: Standard steel vs. Stainless ES1 (-H-20 suffix).

Materials and Specialist Options

STANDARD (Z-Steel)

Manufactured from vacuum-degassed ultra-pure steel. This material reduces impurities that cause fatigue, extending bearing life by up to 80% compared to conventional steels.

STAINLESS (ES1 Series)

Designed for food processing and chemical washdown environments. ES1 nitrogen-infused alloy steel offers superior corrosion resistance and hardness compared to AISI 440C. It is often paired with food-grade grease (RLS) or Molded-Oil (L11-B).

HIGH PERFORMANCE (NSKHPS)

The High Performance Standard (HPS) series offers 15% longer service life and 15% higher limiting speeds than standard variants.
